My friend Paul Korhummel has a knack with a camera, and besides good composition, one of his talents seems to making me homesick for a place where I spent much of my youth.

This sky above Inverness, California and reflected in the calm mirror of Tomales Bay, embodies the coastal hills and water and Pacific sky so well I can almost feel the air on my skin, smell the unique perfume of the unseen Pacific Ocean, the dry grass of the hills, and the forest of bay laurels, oak and pines on the invisible ridges to the left in this photo. I feel the clouds advancing across the blue above and the landscape below. I long for a place both far away and close in my heart.
