I’m posting a picture of the skies above Majuro because I wanted to pay a small tribute to Dr. Hilda C. Heine – women’s rights activist, educator, first person from her country to earn a doctoral degree, and as the newly elected President of the Marshall Islands, the first woman to serve as president of the Marshall Islands, a series of coral atolls midway between Australia and Hawaii. She’s the first woman to serve as head of government for any Micronesian country and one of only a handful of women to head up an independent Pacific country.
I’ll be writing more on the Marshall Islands and the issue of climate change and water access over on champagnewhisky.com, but for now: Congratulations, President Heine! May your skies remain bright!
